When Gypsy was announced to the Arden Theatre staff I immediately began receiving texts from the costume shop saying I had to be the designer on this.  Because of my expertise in designing musicals with dance I was indeed offered this wonderful show.  It starred Philadelphia’s Mary Martello and film actor Anthony Heald. Gypsy is a challenge for any company, and although the Arden has a small costume shop and a two person staff, this was a daunting project.  We worked for many months to create the costumes, and the result was very handsome.  The director, Terrence J. Nolen envisioned this play as a memory piece, and Rose wore one dress for the entire show with a variety of coats and hats, as Rose is always on the move.  Teal became her key color.  I created a color story where Louise only wears Rose’s color in the final scene as mother and daughter finally find some peace together.
