Little Red Robin Hood was an original musical cross-pollinating the story of Little Red Riding Hood with Robin Hood. The music was inspired by 1940’s swing music, so I pulled research from 1940s Hollywood Films. Anyone who knows me knows of my deep love of old movies, and I felt like this musical was written expressly for me! Because the heroine and the villain were both female presenting and the Dame and Friar Tuck were played by men, I created a world where the women wore pants, and the men wore dresses. This helped enormously in storytelling. One of the big numbers was called Blueberry Buckle, and I came up with the crazy idea of dressing the 2 ensemble women as 3-tiered dessert trays displaying said cake. The costume shop created brilliant methods of both making these costumes and making them easy to put on and take off!
